Our Story and Heritage
St Anthony’s School is named in honour of St Anthony of Padua, one of the most beloved and widely known Catholic saints.
Born in Portugal and renowned for his compassion, wisdom, and powerful preaching, St Anthony joined the Franciscan Order in 1221. His Feast Day, celebrated on June 13, is a joyful and meaningful occasion in the life of our school. Each year, we celebrate St Anthony’s Day with liturgy, reflection, and community activities that honour his legacy and the values he inspires in us.

Our story began in 1930, when the first class of students was welcomed by Sister Mary Benvenuta Fox and Sister Mary Monica Smith, who taught in the Parish Hall. From these humble beginnings, St Anthony’s has grown steadily.
By 1950–51, enrolments had reached 195 students, and new rooms were built alongside the hall to accommodate the growth. The current two-storey building was erected in 1968.
In 1976, after nearly five decades of faithful service, the Dominican Sisters passed the baton to lay educators, who have continued their mission with dedication and care.

The Dominican Order, founded by St Dominic in 1216, continues to inspire us. Each year, we join other Dominican schools to celebrate the Feast of Dominican Saints and honour our shared heritage.
Our school crest reflects this Dominican connection. The word Veritas — Latin for Truth — reminds us daily of our calling to seek truth, live with integrity, and nurture the spirit of St Anthony in all we do.
In 2025, we proudly marked 95 years of Catholic education at St Anthony’s. A milestone which was made possible by generations of students, staff, families, and community members who have shaped the heart and soul of our school.
